Explora Journeys

Premium-luxury cruising. All ocean-front suites. Nine dining venues. Honest overview.

Explora Journeys is MSC's luxury brand — launched in 2023 with Explora I and expanding to six ships by 2027. Every suite faces the ocean. Unlimited fine beverages are included in every fare. Nine dining venues are open throughout each journey, with all but two or three included in the fare. The 1.25:1 host-to-guest ratio means more attention than most cruise lines at this price point.

What Explora is not: ultra-intimate. With 461–463 suites per ship, this is not Seabourn or Regent. The service is warm and personalized but not the same anticipatory polish you'll find on a 200-guest ship. Set those expectations correctly and Explora consistently over-delivers for the price. Misread it as the same product as Regent and you'll be disappointed.

Frequently Asked

Is Explora Journeys luxury or premium? +
This is the most common question — and the honest answer is: premium-luxury, not ultra-luxury. Explora sits above Celebrity, Oceania, and Azamara in service and product quality, but below Regent, Seabourn, and Silversea in intimacy and polish. Carrying 900+ guests with a 1.25:1 host ratio, it offers all oceanfront suites, unlimited beverages, and upscale dining — but it's not the same category as a 200-guest ship. If you're coming from Regent expecting that level of anticipatory service, calibrate expectations. If you're stepping up from Celebrity or Azamara, Explora will feel like a significant upgrade.
What's actually included in the fare? +
Quite a lot. Every fare includes: all oceanfront suites, unlimited fine beverages throughout the journey, nine dining venues (eight included, one premium surcharge), thermal spa access, high-speed Wi-Fi, all gratuities, shuttle service from port to city centers, and all entertainment and enrichment programming. Shore excursions are extra. Anthology restaurant has a surcharge. The Cellar wine bar charges per glass.
How is the entertainment? +
Honestly — this is Explora's weakest area and the most consistent criticism in passenger reviews. The Broadway/West End branding in marketing overpromises. Shows are described as 'amateurish' or 'very poor' by multiple reviewers. If evening entertainment is important to you, Explora is not the right ship. If you're there for the food, the design, the sea days, and the ports, the entertainment gap won't bother you.
How does Explora compare to Silversea or Regent? +
Silversea and Regent are smaller, more intimate, and have more polished crew service — particularly in anticipatory, personalized attention. Explora wins on design (the ships are genuinely beautiful), beverage quality (the included wine and spirits program is excellent), and value at the entry fare level. If service polish matters most: Regent. If design and dining quality matters most: Explora is competitive. For first-timers to this tier, Explora is an excellent entry point.
What's the dress code? +
Resort casual throughout. No formal nights, no black-tie. Think 'smart casual' — collared shirts and trousers or a nice dress for dinner is appropriate, but a jacket is never required. This is a deliberate brand choice: Explora is designed to feel like a private yacht charter, not a traditional cruise ship.
