Explora Journeys Dining Guide

Nine culinary experiences. Eight included. One with a surcharge. Here's what each is.

Explora's dining program is one of the strongest arguments for the line — particularly the included beverage quality and the variety across nine venues. Most guests rotate through four or five restaurants on a typical 7-night sailing. The included program covers everything from casual all-day dining to fine dining; the only surcharge applies to Anthology and (on Explora III+) The Chef's Table and Chef's Kitchen.

Included in Every Fare

All venues below are included — no cover charge, no reservation fee.

Emporium Marketplace

All-day global

The main buffet-style venue — but Explora's version leans upscale. Energetic atmosphere, wide variety, open for breakfast, lunch, and casual dinners. Best for mornings and quick lunches; quality can vary at peak dinner service.

Tip: Breakfast here is excellent and low-pressure. For dinner, the specialty venues are worth the reservation.

Sakura

Pan-Asian specialty

Immersive Pan-Asian dining — one of the consistently highest-rated venues onboard. Japanese, Thai, and Chinese influences. Refined presentation, distinct from typical cruise ship Asian food. Reservations recommended.

Tip: Book on embarkation day. One of the first to fill up on 7-night sailings.

Marble & Co. Grill

European steakhouse

Redefined steakhouse concept — premium cuts, European presentation. Strong wine pairing. One of the most popular specialty venues; a reliable choice for a proper dinner.

Tip: Second most in-demand reservation after Sakura. Book early.

Med Yacht Club

Mediterranean

Relaxed dolce vita atmosphere — Mediterranean flavors, lighter preparations. Great for sea days when you don't want a heavy meal. Less formal than Marble or Fil Rouge.

Tip: Good middle-of-voyage option when you want something lighter.

Fil Rouge

French-inspired international

Global tasting tour through a French culinary lens — the most formal of the included venues. Sophisticated atmosphere and curated tasting menus. For guests who want a proper fine dining experience without the Anthology surcharge.

Tip: Best experienced as a dedicated evening, not a quick dinner.

Crema Café

All-day café (Deck 5)

European café concept — espresso, loose-leaf teas, cold-pressed juices, pastries, gelato. 62 indoor, 16 outdoor seats with sea views. Not a full meal venue; a punctuation point between ports or sea day activities.

Tip: Perfect mid-morning or mid-afternoon stop.

Gelateria & Creperie at The Conservatory

Casual desserts (Explora I & II only)

Authentic French and Italian gelato and crêpes. Not available on Explora III+, which replaces this with Shore Club and The Cellar.

Explora Lounge

Light meals, cocktails (Deck 11)

Panoramic views, natural light, dual character: daytime light meals and afternoon tea; evening transitions to cool jazz and cocktails. 149 indoor, 38 outdoor seats.

Tip: One of the best spots onboard for golden hour. The Malt Whisky Bar is tucked inside.

In-Suite Dining

24-hour room service

Available round-the-clock with a menu drawing from all restaurant venues — not a limited room service menu. Genuine restaurant-quality cuisine delivered to your suite.

Tip: Reservations 90 days in advance for specific times; walk-in window available.

Extra Cost

These venues have a surcharge or per-item pricing beyond the included fare.

Anthology

All ships

Italian fine dining with celebrity chef menus — the only surcharge restaurant on Explora I & II. Curated tasting menus, premium service, meaningfully different from included venues. Surcharge applies per person.

→ Worth it for one dinner per sailing on 7-night voyages.

The Chef's Kitchen

All ships

Hands-on culinary immersion in an oceanfront private kitchen. Not a dining experience — a participatory cooking class led by Explora's chefs. Separate booking required.

→ For guests who love food and want a dedicated activity.

The Chef's Table

Explora III & IV only

Bespoke private dining — the most exclusive reserved experience onboard. Limited seats, curated menu, premium pricing. Not available on I or II.

→ Best for special occasions or milestone celebrations.

Shore Club

Explora III & IV only

Beach-club style poolside restaurant on Deck 11. Casual alfresco dining in a more relaxed outdoor setting. Replaces the Gelateria & Creperie of earlier ships.

The Cellar

Explora III, IV & V

Wine bar with a curated premium collection guided by Cellar Masters — paired with small bites and chocolate truffles. Per-glass pricing: €15–20+. The standard unlimited beverage program does not cover The Cellar selection.

→ For wine enthusiasts who want to go beyond the included program.

Book these on embarkation day

These venues fill fastest on 7-night sailings. Make reservations as soon as you board:

Sakura Most in-demand specialty venue — fills within hours of embarkation.
Marble & Co. Grill Second most popular. Premium dinner experience, consistent quality.
Anthology Limited covers, surcharge dining — book early to get your preferred evening.
Fil Rouge Best formal included dining option. Popular on sea days.

Frequently Asked

Is the food as good as they claim? +
For the most part, yes — with caveats. Multiple reviewers rate Explora's included dining among the best at sea for an all-inclusive line. Sakura and Marble & Co. Grill receive consistent praise. Inconsistencies show up at peak times, particularly in Emporium — some guests report cold or underwhelming dishes during busy periods. For specialty dining, Anthology's celebrity chef program is highly rated. The beverage quality (especially included wines) is noted as exceptional.
Will I get bored of the dining options on longer sailings? +
On 7-night sailings, most guests rotate comfortably across the six to seven included venues without repeating. On voyages of 14+ nights, you'll cycle through each restaurant at least twice. The in-suite dining menu rotates and offers dishes from each restaurant, which extends the variety. Anthology provides an obvious premium option when you want something different.
Do I need to make dinner reservations? +
For specialty venues (Sakura, Marble & Co. Grill, Fil Rouge, Med Yacht Club) reservations are recommended — they fill up quickly on 7-night sailings. Book via the Explora app or with the concierge as early as possible after embarkation. Emporium Marketplace is open-seating throughout the day. In-suite dining is available 24 hours with 90-day advance booking windows for specific times.
Is Anthology worth the surcharge? +
For one dinner per sailing, yes — especially on longer voyages. It's the only restaurant where Explora applies a celebrity chef concept with a curated tasting menu. The experience is meaningfully different from the included venues. Whether the surcharge is justified depends on your broader dining budget for the trip.
